The Sega Saturn was Sega’s real 32 bit console.
Contrary to the beautiful design architecture of the Master System and Genesis, the Saturn is a complete mess which includes 7 processors. The console’s main CPUs are two Hitachi SH-2 though some programmers only used 1 CPU in their games to simplify the software.
Several different types of memory carts were available for the Saturn. Both official and third-party products could be used to augment the console’s relatively small 32KB of built-in battery-backed SRAM.
